  • Series of the Day: Mary Ryder's "Dolly Line-Ups" Series. Says the artist with a laugh, "Some time ago a friend gave me four antique bisque doll figurines and they really freaked me out! I find them both funny and a little bit creepy…kind of like my friend.

"They are compelling subjects for drawing and painting. So human but not so human with strange oversized heads and undersized bodies. They just stand there all lined up, unable to move, unable to emote, unable to articulate in both senses of the word.

"The 'line-up' format is amusing to me because it is reminiscent of a criminal suspect line-up so they look as if they have done something wrong…but really, they just ARE wrong.

So I line them up and off we go…."

Works in series are done in Oil, Graphite or Acrylic - displayed throughout April.
