March Shows at Gallery Underground

Arlington, VA – A solo show in the Focus Gallery, “Screaming Babies” features large portraits with a close-up view of raw emotion. Linda Lowery has been painting and drawing crying babies for the past five years in a loose, expressionistic style using bold color. Whatever feelings they evoke, they’ll grab your attention and you won’t soon forget these images.

COASTAL THERAPY- February 2-28

Arlington, VA – “Coastal Therapy” is a solo exhibit in the Focus Gallery of Keith Wilkie’s oil paintings intended to “soothe the soul.” A welcome reminder of high-season coastal life all over the world, the show explores a wonderful variety of waterside light, seascapes, sea creatures and coastal birds.

All-media national juried show which explores this powerful color, used by artists to attract attention, express emotion or interpret a feeling. Historically, RED in art was associated with sacrifice, danger and courage. But messages and connotations change with time and modern RED is the color of love, heat, passion, violence, anger or joy.

  • Hungry? Today we are featuring a piece by member artist Mary Phelan entitled "Takeout" ($150). Says Mary of her work, "I work in watercolor because it moves, it flows. The serendipitous mixing of colors on paper can bring happy surprises. I work with bold colors and rich textures, using a variety of papers and pigments. My garden, the seaside and my travels are my usual themes. I try to expose something unanticipated in my approach to still life." While this piece might make you crave Chinese, wouldn't it make a wonderful addition to your kitchen decor?
