Juried by Mark Cameron Boyd
Mayhem: art about chaos, disorder, and confusion. Mayhem might depict the after effects of a day cooking in the kitchen, a bad hair day, a painting project gone amuck, the aftermath of a natural disaster, the results of trying unsuccessfully to multi-task too many things at one time. Mayhem is a part of our lives on small and grand scales. How do you depict Mayhem in a visual sense? Abstract lines and shapes, realistic renderings, non representational shapes and color, three-dimensional sculpture are all acceptable means of expression when it comes to Mayhem in May.

About the Juror
Artist Mark Cameron Boyd is currently Adjunct Professor of Art Theory at the Corcoran School of Art and Design. Boyd’s artwork explores “text as language for painting” by using his original writings for his works. Boyd’s Logocentric Playground, exhibited at American University’s Museum at Katzen Arts Center in 2006, expanded his practice to participatory art as visitors were invited to write upon his blackboard panels. Boyd has shown his work in many local and national exhibitions and was a 2007 Janet and Walter Sondheim Prize Semi-Finalist selected for exhibition at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.
