Focus Gallery: “facevalue” Solo Show by Brandie Adams-Piphus
Main Gallery: April Members Show
Dates: March 28-April 29, 2016
Opening Reception: Friday, April 1, 5-8pm
Arlington, VA – During April, Gallery Underground features “facevalue,” a solo show by Brandie Adams-Piphus featuring digital portraits.
The artist states: ” As a digital painter, I work with a pen tablet to mimic brushwork…using illustration software to draft portraits in the same manner a painter applies paint to canvas, starting with a blank computer screen. My primary focus is on portraiture, and this body of work explores issues related to womanhood, beauty, sexuality, and identity as they are defined by gender roles, skin color, and race identity.”
In addition to a new all-media April Members Show in the Main Gallery, also featured is the work of painter Mary-Jeanne Reid Martz. Martz says, “I have been traveling almost world-wide since my early twenties… there is nothing like a painting I have actually created to make my memories exceptionally vivid. My hope is that others will also experience what I see and feel when they view my paintings.”
