Press Release January 2018
Gallery Underground presents: PEACE in ABSTRACTION solo show.
When: January 2 – 26
Reception: Reception: January 5, 5pm-8PM
Featured Artist for January: Subodh Ghimire
“I paint when I get vibrations in my mind and release them onto blank canvases,” says artist Subodh Ghimire of his acrylic works on canvas. “Those ideas become abstract or semi-abstract paintings.” His pieces are inspired by the uniqueness of nature, history, philosophy and science, and his interactions with distinguished archaeologists and historians has provided inspiration for these works.
Over the past decade, Mr. Ghimire has exhibited his work at exhibitions primarily in France and Nepal. His work was awarded Best in Show at a 2016 art exhibition of 125 artists from Europe and Nepal organized by the Lion’s Club of Paris, France.
First Fridays (first Friday of every month), Gallery Underground hosts an art reception FREE and open to all from 5-8pm. A members’ art gallery features sculpture, pottery, clay work, jewelry, paintings, mixed media and photography; each month the entire gallery changes it’s exhibit and presents a new show from its talented local members.
Gallery Underground anchors the visual arts component of Crystal City’s Art Underground, and serves as the main gallery space for the 150-member Arlington Artists Alliance. In addition to its monthly rotating exhibitions, Gallery Underground hosts a variety of community events, like lunchtime paint-ins, monthly Painting Uncorked classes, and dance and musical performances. Gallery Underground has been voted “Best Art Gallery” in Arlington Magazine’s “Best of Arlington” survey, and was selected “Best Gallery, Crystal City” by Washingtonian Magazine.
Metro accessible. Parking is available in metered spots on nearby streets and in public garages which are free all day Saturdays and after 4:00 on weekdays.
